About Forever Tartan (formerly Scottish Imports Inc)
The business started as Scottish Imports is 1958. Tho' not my business at that time, it was where my Dad picked up his drumsticks, and Mom bought her first chanter plus all my highland dancing gear. My Mom made me a red highland dancing jacket so I would stand out over all the other dancers wearing black velvet jackets! I began highland dancing at 4 years of age with Helen Turvey back in the 50's and attended dance competitions throughout Alberta, BC and Washington. A bad instep injury put me on the dance sidelines at 16 and university took me in a different direction. By 1989 I had a daughter of my own all ready and eager to start Highland dancing. Back to Scottish Imports! After several years of research and marketing in the corporate world, running my own free-lance consulting business and being back into the Highland dancing world with my daughter, it hit me....I think I want to own Scottish Imports! A year later, with business case in hand, I approached the owner...now 80...and made my presentation on how I was going to take Scottish Imports into the next century! I believe it made him happy his store would be in good hands. I ran Scottish Imports Inc for 20 years, then rebranded to Forever Tartan, taking the fabric, dancing swords and made-to-measure business home! Forever Tartan is my semi-retirement "job" and it's great fun......Valeta
